VMX 2024 Product Review - Part 2

In January, the members of the Medical Advisory Board (MAB) spent time in the exhibit hall of VMX 2024 to gather information about new and innovative products in our field. During the upcoming year, the MAB will be meeting with our top picks to gather details about their products and distribute that information in future Veterinary Voice publications.

The MAB identified several companies that we considered Honorable Mentions. Half of those are listed in this article, and the second half is featured below.

1. Olympic Veterinary (olympicveterinary.com)

Based in Washington, Olympic Veterinary is a manufacturer of veterinary lifts, tables, and gurneys. The company manufactures its products in the U.S. and aims to offer “new features to save time and improve patient care.”

Several of Olympic’s products are centered around offering multiple functions in one piece of equipment. They offer a strong, lightweight (22-pound) foldable gurney that has a removable, radiolucent stretcher. One of their wet tables easily converts into a fully equipped dental table.

The company manufactures exam tables that have a built-in scale, electric lift, casters to allow the transport of patients, and attachments to support equipment trays, lights, IV poles, and laptop computers. All Olympic equipment featured at VMX was of high quality and there were thoughtful options to customize some features of the exam tables.

2. iM3 (im3vet.com)

Established in Sydney, Australia, iM3 is a veterinary dental company that designs, develops, and manufactures dental machines, hand tools, radiography, and consumable dental supplies.

iM3 offers a wide variety of dental products including well-equipped tables, dental composite material, and supplies related to endodontics. One iM3 product worth mentioning is the iM3 Dental X-Ray Positioning Kit. The kit contains positioning guides and plate holders of all sizes for CR plates.

The set-angle positioning guide demonstrates the appropriate angle and distance for taking full-mouth dental radiographs in cats, dogs, and rabbits in 6 or fewer images. The dental positioning kit requires CR image plates, but is useful to help your team improve dental radiography imaging. The cost is $75.

The company also provides many educational videos and resources for veterinarians and technicians. The range of topics includes sharpening hand tools, normal radiographic dental anatomy, common dental pathology, etc.

3. Bionote (bionote.com)

Bionote is an animal health diagnostics company that provides in-clinic, quantitative testing machines for point-of-care laboratories.

The company offers two diagnostic machines called Vcheck analyzers, the V200 and the V2400. There are 17 biomarker tests available for both Vcheck models that include cPL and fPL, canine and feline proBNP, equine SAA and canine CRP for acute inflammation, canine cortisol, canine T4 and TSH, canine and equine progesterone, SDMA, foal IgG, and canine D dimers.

Both machines are meant to work alongside a standard in-house laboratory that provides CBC and chemistry panels. The V2400 is made for larger hospitals and can run 24 tests at once, producing 70 test results per hour, while the V200 runs a single test at a time. The required sample size is relatively small, and the machines are compact in size.

4. Patient Monitors – Digicare Animal Health (digi-vet.com) and PetMAP (petmap.com)

Digicare Animal Health is an American manufacturer of veterinary-specific medical equipment. The company offers numerous options in patient monitors, a compact ventilator, and 2 infusion pump models.

The variety of available patient monitors is extensive, and some models include the ability to monitor invasive and noninvasive blood pressure, fraction of inspired oxygen, and capnography, in addition to other standard parameters. There are small, handheld options and large screens that display live input from 16 patients at once. Digicare also manufactures a monitor that is safe to be used during MRI procedures on anesthetized patients.

PetMAP is a Florida-based company that manufactures small, handheld veterinary monitors.

The company offers four monitor models that each have a 5-inch screen.  All models are battery-operated and rechargeable. Each model has parameters that are standard (e.g., HR, ECG, temp) and extra parameters that can be added (e.g., NIBP, etCO2, SpO2). PetMAP monitors are ideal for ambulatory services, field procedures on large animals, and any situation outside of a traditional hospital setting. The company’s focus on portability, durability, and intuitive user interfaces is clear when the monitors are on display.
