For over 30 years, Dr. Brian Darrow has dedicated his career to advancing veterinary medicine, promoting leadership, and giving back to his local community. His recent appointment as President-Elect of the Viticus Group, (best known for hosting the Western Veterinary Conference, “WVC”), further highlights his passion for the veterinary profession.

While he’s not busy caring for Iowa’s pets at Anamosa Veterinary Clinic (which he founded in 1984), he’s working to combat rabies in Kenya in partnership with the Sharon Live On Foundation. To date, the foundation has successfully vaccinated over 400,000 animals, significantly reducing the spread of the disease and improving public health in the region. 🌍

Given everything he’s achieved, we wanted to get to know Dr. Darrow a little better, so we asked him 15 rapid-fire questions to learn more about his life inside and outside the clinic.

Vegas is wonderful but look out Nashville, here we come!

2. Mentor or mentee 👨‍🎓?

Mentor. Hard to teach this old dog new tricks.

3. 👥 Team building or 🌱 individual growth?

Grow yourself in order to build a team.

4. Grandkids 👶 or pets?

Grandkids! Billy, Lincoln, and Benny run my world.

5. Giving back or taking time for yourself?

Giving back! As long as I get a nap… Take time to recharge so you ensure you’re always giving back.

6. Camels 🐪 or cows 🐮 or small animals 🦮?

Pregnant cows and dogs with bad knees that I can fix.

7. People or animals?

People 100%. However, if they come with animals, that’s a perk.

8. Skiing ⛷️ or hiking 🏔️?

Skiing in the winter, hiking in the summer. Anything that involves the mountains.

9. Immediate feedback or quarterly reviews?

Immediate feedback.

10. Swimming 🏊‍♂️ or running 🏃‍♂️?

Running, particularly at Iowa State University.

11. Surgery or veterinary orthopedics?

Orthopedics, of course!

I miss my flip phone… definitely nature!
