Together with the Big Hearts for Big Breeds rescue, the McClintock Animal Care Center team saved this 5-year-old Cane Corso.
An abandoned dog was discovered on the side of a Phoenix highway, emaciated and clinging to life. A passing motorist spotted her and immediately brought her to Big Hearts for Big Breeds, a volunteer-based rescue for large breed dogs led by Caroline Morder, Hospital Manager at McClintock Animal Care Center.
The 5-year-old dog, later named Marble, arrived in devastating condition. Her skeletal frame revealed protruding ribs, and she was critically malnourished.

"She has been through the unimaginable," said Caroline. "Being abandoned by someone you love, dropped off on the side of the highway and left to fend for yourself."
Marble's first 72 hours were critical. The team used a carefully monitored feeding protocol to prevent re-feeding syndrome, a potentially fatal condition in malnourished animals.

Despite presenting with mild anemia and a heart murmur caused by extreme malnutrition, Marble began responding to treatment. She gained 2 pounds a day, and her gentle temperament emerged almost immediately.
"Despite everything she's endured, Marble is nothing but sweetness, gentleness, and gratitude," said Caroline. "She adores people, gets along wonderfully with other animals, and carries a soft, loving spirit that shines the moment she feels safe."
Just one week in her foster home, and Marble had already gained 14 pounds and incredible strength.

Her rescue stands as a reminder: one person's decision to stop, to care, to act, can change everything.
