Bay Moorings Animal Hospital rescues trapped pittie during Hurricane Milton

Pit Bull trapped in a crate during Hurricane Milton rescued by Technicians from Bay Moorings Animal Hospital

For years a Pit Bull named Miracle lived outside alone in a crate under a tree. Neglected and used for breeding, Miracle knew little kindness. Her situation grew worse when Hurricane Milton struck St. Petersburg, Florida. At the peak of the storm, the tree collapsed, trapping her in the crate with no way out.

After neighbors noticed the situation, they used a chainsaw to free Miracle from the yard, and turned to our team at Bay Moorings Animal Hospital for help. Responding immediately, I texted my team for help and headed to the scene. When Savannah Stone, a Surgery and Veterinary Technician at Bay Moorings, and I arrived, we learned from a neighbor that the elderly homeowner could no longer care for her and she needed a new home... When we finally got her out of the crate, she was so sweet and just craved affection.

After the owner agreed to surrender her, we brought Miracle to Bay Moorings Animal Hospital for some tests. She was very nervous, as it seemed like she had never been in a car before. But she quickly warmed up to us.

At the clinic, our team gave her food and a cozy setup for her first night. It was important for us to make her feel safe and loved after everything she’d been through.

The next morning, Dr. Aleia Hollands conducted a test that revealed Miracle had been eating nothing but leaves. The team also treated her for an ear infection, skin allergies, and intestinal parasites. They then transferred her to Penny's Hospice & Sanctuary, where she could continue her recovery.

Miracle’s rescue was a perfect example of how everyone came together—from the neighbor who coordinated the rescue to the volunteers who ensured she received the care she needed.

Miracle was adopted by a family in Tampa with over 20 years of experience rescuing dogs from bad situations.

We’re driven by a deep sense of compassion for animals who can't speak for themselves. Every animal we can help find a loving home is a victory for us all.

Together, we can make miracles happen.
