St. Johns Veterinary Hospital: Saving Florida’s wildlife–one animal at a time

Since 2010, St. Johns Veterinary Hospital has saved the lives of hundreds of wild animals in northeast Florida. When we’re not busy caring for the pets of St. Augustine, we’re volunteering to care for sick and injured wildlife–from tiny turtles to baby herons to magnificent pelicans.

Most recently, our team healed a barred owl whose X-rays revealed a cracked beak. We cured an injured American Woodcock with a ruptured eye. And we helped a weak and ill juvenile pelican fly again. Thanks to our team, each of these animals recovered and were sent for rehabilitation before they could be released back into the wild. And they all represent just one chapter in a 15-year partnership with The Ark Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation.

We've closely collaborated with The Ark to ensure that animals in distress get the medical attention they need. Whether it’s through emergency care, rehabilitation, or simply providing a safe, nurturing environment, The Ark gives them time to heal until they’re ready to be released.

Our hospital's commitment to wildlife conservation extends far beyond our clinic walls. In our popular "Wildlife Wednesday" social media series, we tell stories of the latest wild animals in our care, educating our followers about the species while showcasing the specialized veterinary care these animals receive. It's also an opportunity to connect with others who care about wildlife as much as we do.

It's been an incredibly rewarding experience to see how our efforts with The Ark have positively impacted local wildlife populations. Each animal we help is a small victory in conservation, and we're proud to contribute to this cause.
