💬 What You'll Get:

"Abdominal, Urogenital and Skin Reconstruction Surgery" is an intensive, 16-hour, two-day program designed to help you develop and refine advanced surgical techniques with confidence and precision. Taught by highly experienced, board-certified clinicians who actively perform and teach these procedures in private practice, this hands-on course will have you working in pairs on cadavers, performing as both lead and assistant surgeon. This course has been approved for RACE accreditation (16 CE).

🗣️ What You'll Cover:

Day 1 (inside the abdomen) covers indications, techniques, and postoperative care for liver and GI biopsies, gastrotomy, enterotomy, resection and anastomosis, cystotomy, gastropexy, and splenectomy.

Day 2 (outside the abdomen) covers indications, techniques, and postoperative care for skin reconstruction, including large mass removals, drain selection and placement, Z- and H-plasty, techniques for covering distal thoracic and pelvic limb skin defects, and urinary diversion surgeries, including pre-scrotal urethrostomy (canine) and perineal urethrostomy (feline).

This course is open to all clinicians looking to learn or improve their surgical skills. Please note this training incurs a cost of $2,150.00 (as of 2026), billed directly to your hospital at the time of registration. This covers both days of in-person training. Travel and hotel accommodations are not included.

About Your Instructors:

Dr. Larry Hill, DVM, DABVP, obtained his DVM from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine (OSU CVM) following his undergraduate studies in Biology and English, and a tour as a Peace Corps Volunteer teaching math and science in Western Samoa in the South Pacific. Dr. Hill entered small animal private practice upon graduation (1994) and returned by invitation to teach at OSU CVM in 1996, achieving the rank of Full Professor in 2014.

His lifelong passion for teaching has earned him numerous awards, including the Carl Norden-Pfizer Distinguished Teaching Award, the Excellence in Teaching Award (2-time recipient), the John Lyman, Jr. Award for Clinical Teaching Excellence (2-time recipient), the Dean's Award for Creativity in Teaching, multiple "Best Rotation" Awards, and Inaugural Membership in the OSU CVM Professional Program Teaching Honor Roll. Dr. Hill became board-certified through the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in 2008 (Canine/Feline Specialty).

He currently serves as a Mentor for new and recent NVA graduates and is an Associate Veterinarian at a well-established NVA practice in Worthington, Ohio, where he performs orthopedic and advanced soft-tissue.

Gary Thompson, D.V.M., Diplomate ABVP (Canine/Feline) is a board-certified specialist in Canine/Feline practice with almost two decades of experience in referral surgical practice. He has lectured nationally and internationally to veterinarians on topics such as orthopedics, reconstructive and urinary surgical techniques, infection control and innovative techniques in perioperative pain management. He currently serves on the board of the Veterinary Orthopedic Society and has been an abstract reviewer for the Veterinary Orthopedic Conference for years.
